Suntime-Funtimes in Arizona

It's been ages since I've done any blogging--currently I'm in Des Moines doing a teaching practicum (a three-week deal in a high school classroom where I get to teach some lessons, but mostly I observe my cooperating teacher.  So nothing too crazy.

I wanted to share about my time in Arizona where I got to see BOTH of my brothers at the same time, as well Malee!  So here are some pictures!

Long time, no write (on this blog, anyway)

I know I've been bad at updating on this website with how my year abroad's been going, but I've really appreciated Bill's link to my outside blog!

I just got back from a month traveling around the U.K., the first half with Mom and Jim, and the second half around Scotland.  Both halves were amazing, and I've blogged about my Scotland adventures.  Pictures will follow, although my camera hardly did the incredible views justice!  Here's a few sneak previews, though...

Mom and I on a (very windy!) Lake District hike

Amazing cliffs in Scrabster, at the very north of Scotland's mainland, before I hit the Orkney Islands

One of the many splendid views out of my train ride from Mallaig to Fort William.

Looking on the Political Bright Side

I was supermegabummed with the way the elections went recently (bye bye, gay rights!) and I feel super crappy for not voting.  It's easy to forget about American politics when I'm wrapped up in the moaning British (they are really a miserable bunch...I don't think they'd be really happy unless they had stuff to be "oppressed" by)...BUT I found this website and it was a nice look on the bright side.  Sorry about the swears in the title/etc.

Lovin' the UK!

Hello family!  I'm really loving the UK so far, and although I haven't yet hit the two-week mark, I'm feeling more settled in to the flat and the city.  I FINALLY finished blogging about LAST weekend's trip to Northumbria, so check those out when you have time.  I like keeping updated with you guys.  Hope your autumns are going well!

Monster blog entry done!

It took me waaay too long to get the photos up, but now I've got the system down and my first photo blog on my tumblr site is up!  Check it out if you have time, although it might take a while to read.  Hopefully I can keep it up to date with neato photos and good details.

3 Days left and the blog is up and running!

Well, on Sunday I'm out of here!  I've started an external blog for my travels (don't be offended, Bill!), because it'll be easier to manage and share with a wider group of people.  I'll let you guys know on here when I have big updates and so on, but if you want to follow my blog, the web address is:
http://www.leftlanelife.tumblr.com

Hopefully I'll be spinning tales and sharing photos and videos before too long!

"20 Things I've Learned From Traveling Around the World in Three Years"

This blog could also be titled: "Bob, Steve, and Grammie: Come to Turkey!"

And in general I just thought this was an interesting little essay.  Enjoy!

The Last of the Cartoons

Trout Fry is a big deal at Luther, but later Luther's really been cracking down on it, since it's turned into a huge beerfest...so Wellness always has an "alternate" activity at the same time as Trout Fry.  Of course, they say that they're not trying to compete with/discourage Trout Fry.  Riiight.

A bit of nonsense in honor of finals week and the final issue of Chips for the school year!

Further Toons from Chips Newspaper

Here are some more recent cartoons I've done for the school paper.  Once again, they're mostly school-related, so I'll try to explain the context of each one..

So Luther technically isn't a dry campus, but there are a bazillion restrictions for drinking on-campus...so in honor of St. Patrick's I made the above.  Not my best-drawn one since I had to draw it up pretty quickly, but oh well...

I'm really happy with how this turned out, art-wise.  The squirrels on campus are pretty ridiculous.  They think they own the place.  This cartoon was published in our once-a-semester joke paper, where half the paper is ridiculous made-up articles.  I'll try to put up the ones I wrote for that issue; they're always a lot of fun.

Spring Break Road Trip!

So last week was my spring break, in which I traveled with my friends Brenna and Matthew on an Epic Roadtrip of the Midwest.  Here's a picture of us with Brenna's car, Roofie Ruby the Armchair on Wheels, and Honeycomb Hannah, my surrogate roommate.  And yes, my surrogate roommate is, in fact, a ginormous bag of generic-brand honeycomb cereal.  This picture was taken in Kingsley, one of our many stops on our Midwstern adventure.

Basically our route went from Decorah to the Cities, where we stayed for a night with a friend before driving on to Grand Forks, North Dakota, where Brenna lives.  There was a LOT of flooding there, but not nearly as much as there was when we drove through Fargo.  Thank goodness the water wasn't so high that we couldn't use the interstate, but it was almost to that point.  I'll try to get a good photo up of that soon-- right now I don't have any on my computer.
