Kiteboarding

The summer has begun! Let the Creasey Community site come back to life!
Two of my friends and I have recently begun kiteboarding lessons. Kiteboarding is basically wakeboarding, but instead of a boat, you have a really big kite. There are some great youtube videos, if you want to see a video. Here is a picture I found online:

The lessons we are taking are broken into three days: Kite Skills, Water 1, and Water 2. In the first lesson, Kite Skills, we learn to fly a 2.5m kite, which is about 1/5th of the size of a real kite. We learn how to control the kite and how to get varying amounts of power from it depending on how we move it. We each bought a "trainer kite" as they are called and we practice with them on land. Here is an extremely photoshopped picture of my friends flying their little kites:

Steamboat with the Artes Family 2012

Lori, my friend Alex, and I went to Steamboat Springs, CO, last week to visit Fred, Ruth, Skyler, Leif, Emmet, and the two goldens, Polo and Boji. The snow wasn't the best, but it was much better than what Alex and I usually ski on. Alex lives in Chicago now and is one of my friends from MIT. I lived with her for a year and she and I were both ChemE. She should not be confused with my other friend Alex who is also ChemE and came to Okoboji last labor day. Below is a picture of Lori, me, Alex, and Ruth.

Our first day of skiing, Fred took us on a little adventure. Surprise, surprise.

He told Lori there was "going to be this place you don't like... but they we are going to get to a beautiful meadow". Along the way, Lori kept asking: "Is this the part I'm not going to like?" And Fred would respond: "No, Lori, were not there yet!" Eventually we did get there. It is pictured below. It was rather steep and mogully.

Skiing in October

I went skiing at Killington in Vermont today. It was a gorgeous day and the snow stayed non-icy for about 60% of the time we were there. There was 2 runs open, total about 600 vertical feet (aka zero) open. If you are bored and interested in a little game, try to find the two runs that wre open on the map. They were called Rime and Reason and they were off of the lift called North Ridge Triple. Below are some pictures. I went with my friend Matt and one of his friends. They both snowboard. I wore my new ski jacket (the most amazing ski jacket ever) and my new skis, which were also amazing. The best sign we saw today was "Caution: Open Water. Low coverage."

Vermont

I went to Vermont this weekend with a friend of mine to attend "Ullrfest". AKA a gathering of really hardcore skiers. It was about 3.5 hours outside of Boston and I took some pictures from the car. Below are two photos of the fall leaves:

This next photo is my favorite that I took from the car:

Life Update

Hello. Its been a long time. Thanks Ann for reminding me to post here.
I'm in Boston. I have an apartment and my roomie (Amy) and I had a housewarming party last night. Most of our friends are out of town (we picked a great weekend) but we really needed to get a couch and clean our rooms so having a party was good incentive to do that. Besides attempting to furnish a 2br apartment, I also go to work sometimes. And by sometimes I mean 5 days a week for 8 hours. Much improvement from MIT. Now that summer is gone, or only appears once or twice a week, I've begun thinking about the next season: winter. I bought a pair of skis the other day. I wasn't planning to, but the guy at the store gave me 40% off on the skis, 20% off on the bindings, 50% off on the poles, and they mounted the bindings for free. I couldn't really turn him down. I bought two lift tickets yesterday too. It really needs to start snowing.

End of Spring Semester

Hello Everyone! I have one week of MIT left ever (so sad.... not really). I have one Spanish project left and one exam in Cell Bio, so I will probably just be laying in my bed being lazy for my last week. This weekend I think I am going to Rhode Island with my roommate Alex. She has a house there. In one week I will at the airport heading back to Minneapolis. Next Wednesday I am getting my tonsils out, so if you have any suggestions of ways to occupy my time while tired, hungry, and bored, I would appreciate hearing them. My friend Amy (who I will be living with next year) and I have begun the search for an apartment. Today we saw seven and liked two of them. We are going to see a few more on Wednesday so hopefully we will have a place by the end of this week so, depending on our lease, I can purchace tickets back from Turkey and figure out if I need to sublet somewhere for the summer. Along the way of apartment searching we have seen lots of dogs, and I have been advised by my parents to not buy a dog, but there are some cute ones around here.

Puerto Rico

Seven of my friends and I went to Puerto Rico this past week for Spring Break. We stayed in a fancy hotel on the beach, and were able to do so because we took the red-eye out on Friday and the super early flight the day we left. We mostly just layed on the beach or by the pool. One day we went to the rainforest. We also went to the Bacardi factory ;) They gave us free drinks, and then once we drank the free drinks, we convinced ourselves to buy some actual bottles. Basically they tricked us into buying their product by getting us drunk. Here is a picture of Amy, Danielle, and I. Amy is one of the swimmer captains with me and Danielle is ChemE with me.

Here is us being silly on the beach (Danielle, Steph Fung, and me):

I brought the pool along again. Its really fun becasue the waves break on it and make us scream a lot. We flipped over once. Us in the pool (max we fit was 6):

East Coast Skiing and the End of Swimming Forever

This is a dual blog entry because I need to blog about these two things. The first one is my sking adventure on the east coast. For those of you not familiar with skiing, there is a huge difference between East Coast Skiing and Rockies Skiing. I didn't believe it till I fell down this hill (middle, most obvious one):

Blizzard in Boston!

We had an actual blizzard in Boston yesterday. They didn't cancel school or close the pool until the early hours of the morning and I was supposed to wake up at 5:00am to be in the pool at 6:00am. Then I would have swam for two hours, gone to class for three hours, and then gone back to swim practice. I was reading all the possible weather reports the night before trying to justify me not getting out of bed in the morning. One report said: "VISIBILITIES...ONE QUARTER MILE OR LESS AT TIMES. THOSE VENTURING OUTDOORS MAY BECOME LOST OR DISORIENTED...SO PERSONS IN THE WARNING AREA ARE ADVISED TO STAY INDOORS." I was pretty sure that I wasn't going to have to go, which is good because I didn't actually check till 30 minutes after I was supposed to be in the pool (at 6:30am). To my extreme happiness, MIT and the pool were both closed. No swimming, no class. I got up and shoveled the front steps and sidewalk outside our house because I was really excited for the snow and because we are required to shovel the sidewalk outside our house in Boston.
